Thursday's card was an open card, featuring the VC
Bet puppy competition. There was some real good quality pups on
show.
Dark
Fantasy broke best in heat one of the VC puppy comp, and looked
very likely to go round in front, but he slowed going into the bend,
and eased at the bend causing trouble for a few. Eye
Onthe Force started modestly and paced up well to the bend to
lead round. Journey
East turned handy and ran on well and led from the 3rd bend. Droopys
Mate suffered some trouble, but turned in a pitch. However,
despite holding a decent chance, were he to produce his usual
finishing burst, he ducked in behind on the run in. Back
By Evening got a clear run and grabbed 3rd qualifying spot late.
Secretariat
broke well in the 2nd VC puppy heat, but never got far enough away
from his field and Nick Savva's Westmead
Kewell (prev 6/16 A2 Hall Green A1 Henlow) broke ok and came
home strongly. He led from the third bend and won by 4 1/2 L in a
decent 28.93. Secretariat
held on for second. Heavy
Weather came off the rails and he and Tiger
Scot (from T1 & T2) came together numerous times in the
first half of the race. Once Heavy
Weather shrugged off the attentions of Tiger
Scot, he came home quite well to qualify in third.
Heat
3 saw a stunning performance from Droopys
Curbs. He broke averagely and unleashed an awesome burst of
early pace. He lost his way at the second bend and Beat
Them King swung round in front. Beat
Them King was outclassed and swamped for pace from the 3rd bend.
Droopys
Curbs picked himself up and again showed good pace down the back
straight and led from the 3rd. Westmead
Tina broke modestly, but flew down the back straight. She timed
her challenge all wrong and was badly impeded at the 3rd. Droopys
Curbs strode majestically up the run in and won in a fast 28.76.
While Westmead
Tina got close to him at the 3rd bend, I don't think she would
have got to this boy on the run in. Clonbrin
Mai stayed on and grabbed second and thankfully Westmead
Tina held 3rd as there wasn't really a challenger in sight.
Heat
4 looked one of the worst. Ask
The Question stood head and shoulders above the field on his
best form. Trouble is, he hadn't showed any of it at the Stow previously.
He was sent off 4/5 jolly. Milldean
Madam started best, but was outpaced to the bend. Directors
Star broke averagely and showed some pace to lead at the first
bend. He ran out of gas at the 3rd bend and faded. Ask
The Question started slowly and lost the plot at the second
bend. In a weak field, he was able to pick himself up and ran on and
lead from the 3rd bend. Aero
Blackjack started modestly, was crowded at the second bend and
stayed on for second. Milldean
Madam plodded on for third. The winning time was 29.22
Broadway
Spark was quickly away and made all in the 5th heat. He
understandingly tied up, recording 29.15 after his layoff and he
will strip fitter next Tuesday. Those behind were not much to write
home about. Westmead
Naomi started modestly, got a clear run, ran wide at the last
bend and kept on to finish a length second. Kid
Joker started very slowly, got a clear run and grabbed 3rd,
despite fading near the line.
The last heat was a
gimme for Westmead
Keawn. He started well, took a middle course from trap two and
made all. He recorded a decent 28.84. Headford
County started modestly, showed some pace to the first bend, but
was crowded. He stayed on late to grab 2nd, 8 1/4L behind the
winner. Noirs
Denis was also crowded at the first bend and grabbed 3rd
qualifying spot narrowly.
.Milldean
Flash produced an amazing performance to win the next open. He
stumbled at the start and trailed the field. Cobra
Striking led up after missing his break and riding a first bend
bump. He never got clear and was taken by Kindred
Sparky at the 3rd bend. Milldean
Flash was Arazi like and weaved his way though the field and led
on the run in.
Not
So Jolly led up in the 6 bend open finale. He didn't see the
trip out and faded from the last. True
Frankie caused a right pile up by easing at the first. Combined
Team was the only other one to escape trouble and he led from
the 6th bend and went on to score.
