Saturday's card featured the 2nd round of the
Grand Prix. the puppy comp and a few graded fillers.
Short Circuit broke best in the opening A4 and led round.
All Clued Up again was tardy into his stride, used his pace to
hit the front at the 3rd, but had no more to give on the run in.
Wheres The Girls broke averagely and paced up well to the bend.
He was crowded a the second, but kept on and led on the run in.
Flying Fancy kept on and grabbed 2nd from the fading
All Clued Up, who is becoming expensive to follow.
The H1 was named the "CONGRATULATIONS TO JOHANNA BEUMER "MBE"
STAKES" and
Wol, who is not normally an early leader, making all.
Firm Handed kept on for second.
Shelbourne
Laura led up in the 1st Grand Prix heat and looked all set for a
comfortable success. However, her stride really shortened off the
last and she held on desperately. Calzaghe
Frisby checked at every bend and went down by a head as the
leader came back to him. Eye
Onthe Power plodded on for third.
Courts
Ad Queen blasted out of the taps and made all in the VC Bet
standard. Too
Risky showed lots of pace, but eased at all bends. Happy
Memories kept on well for second. Noirs
Ted started poorly and was smashed up at the bend. (looked well
out of it at the time)
Both Kooga
Kid and Fear
Robben started modestly in the 2nd Grand Prix heat. Kooga
Kid showed the best early and led on the run to the third bend. Fear
Robben turned handy and held every chance. However, he didn't
run the bends well and never looked likely to get on terms. Kooga
Kid won it by 2 1/4 lengths. Shelbourne
Thesa came from miles back to qualify in third.
In the first VC puppy heat, Dark
Fantasy ran out an impressive winner. He smashed the lids open,
took a path towards the rails and made all. Secretariat
ran well in second as well. He missed the break and paced up well,
challenging to the third bend. He went down by 1 1/2L. Westmead
Kewell broke poorly and was never in the hunt.
Black
Rose Chick broke smartly in the 2nd Grand Prix heat. He led up
until the 5th bend. Foulden
Special started modestly, but strode up majestically to take
over at the 5th bend. He was a most impressive winner. Brought to
the event fresh, he'll go close in the event outright, if finding
the gaps. Black
Rose Chick held on for second and Fear
Martina stayed on for third. Armies
Plan showed plenty of early pace, but failed to se out the trip.
Butterbridge
Ali broke modestly, showed some EP, but was dragged back at the
first and never got competitive there after.
There was a distinct lack of EP in the 2nd VC
puppy heat. Blacknotblue
got to the front and led for a bit, until Westmead
Keawn swept by at the 3rd and won easily. Droopys
Mate suffered plenty of trouble and may have given Westmead
Keawn plenty to think about if getting loose down the back. Two
nice pups indeed.
Discreet
Cat was really impressive in the first round of the Grand Prix
and was again foot perfect in heat 4 of the second round. He smashed
out, made all, and stopped the clock at a decent 39.62. He is very
much the one to beat in the comp in my view. He'll break plenty of
dogs hearts with his dazzling early pace. White
Bomber stayed on well from off the pace, just as he did in the
first round. Shelbourne
Ryan was second until running one paced from between the last
two turns.
Ronnies
Tiger smashed out of the traps in the 3rd VC puppy heat.
However, he was swamped for pace down the back straight as the
quality pups got into top gear. Westmead
Tina and Noirs
Falcon simply flew down the back straight. Westmead
Tina left a few lengths on the track as he ran wide round a few
bends. He'll be better next time ... Noirs
Falcon was really impressive as well, though he does have a tendency
to give the rest a start.
The marathon looked really open beforehand and it
went the way of Melon
Twister, who made all. Ebony
Ocean ran wide at the bends and stayed on for second.
Addington Ruby made most of the running to land the A2.
Bell Classic started very slowly and plugged on for second.
January Student paced up well, led briefly on the back straight
and faded from the last bend.
Kindred Sparky broke well and led round in the A1.
Killer Keane got clear run round the 1st two bends and flew down
the back straight and led from the third bend.
Killer Keane heads next for the VC Invitation race, where he
will meet Barnfield On Air and Cleenas Lady, so will have to step up
to get competitive. Home field advantage may help a bit.
Black Horse started slowly, got a clear run and kept on for
second.
Special Deal plugged on for third.
Killer Keane recorded 28.68.
