Saturday's card featured some dreadful
inter-tracks and a few average graded races. I can't see too many
W'don punters coming to the Stow for these races. I doubt the W'don
owners can have been at all impressed with the embarrassing prizes
on offer. Then again I supposed they are used to it, with Wimbledon
being a GRA track..
In the opening A8, Mols
Flyer cracked out, ran wide on the run up and made all. She was
coming back to the field off the last and held on by half a length
from Different
Gravy. Different
Gravy eased at the third bend and kept on. Different
Gravy was formerly A1/S1 Romford, but has only won one Wstow
race out of ca 25.
The first inter-track was a
hurdles event. Questhouse
Jimmy started best and led to the third bend, before crying
enough. He's not been striding out properly for some weeks. Ginger
Ninja led at the 3rd. Boherash
Dingle stayed on for second. Ginger
Ninja showed some spirit and got hold of part of the lure and
refused to give it up, despite his kennel hand's urgings.
In
the second inter-track (another hurdles event), we looked to be set
to be in for a shock, as the outsider, Starfire
Flyer, stole a march on the field. Broadacres
Dan caught him late on after a slow start.
Jo
Jo Anne showed some decent early pace, taking a rails course to
lead the A7. Her stamina gave out again and Journey
Star ran on to lead on the run in. Centaur
Cappo stayed on for 2nd.
The favourite in the
S3, Leaha
Chuita, looked to have the race won after hitting the front at
the 3rd bend. Double
Pickins stayed on the better to grab the lead on the back
straight for the final time. Pennys
Lindsay had led for a few bends from the start, but faded after
being headed.
Droopys
Madam made all in the A7. She ran wide at the 4th bend, but
never saw another rival. Toumpane
Wood got a clear run and kept on to finish 4 lengths second. Journey
Back fell out of the traps on his debut. He showed a little pace
on the back straight, before petering out.
Arry
Olt seemed to have stole a march on his rivals in the A5, when
breaking and taking a decent lead. His stride shortened from between
the last two bends and Rather
Rapid accepted the invitation and led on the run in.
The
away runners performed poorly in the 6 bend inter-track race. Droopys
Hepburn made all from Moynevilla
Robin, who stayed on for second spot. Boherash
Dee moved off at a few bends and was second until fading from
between the last two bends.
Annandale
Chief won well in the A5. He started well and grabbed the rails
after Honcho
Dan gave him plenty of room after a slow start. Annandale
Chief made all. Pinehurst
Silk stayed on for second. Night
Night ran in fits and starts, was clumsy, and looks like one to
avoid under all circumstances.
The next inter-track
looked to be between the home runners. Whilst this was true, the
race was fought out by Siesta
Romeo and Sligo
Next, neither of which ran the bends at all well. Old
Jamaikey broke well and led until being outpaced from the
third bend. Sligo
Next showed bundles of pace on the straights, but lost plenty of
ground at the bends. Siesta
Romeo showed pace on the back straight after a slow start and
also got a clear run round the first two turns. He checked up at the
third bend, but still managed to hit the front off the last bend. He
held on by a fast diminishing head as Sligo
Next flew at him on the run in.
Zoot
broke best in a poor looking A4. He led until fading on the run in
and was caught by the 4Yr old Im
Snoopy. Poacher
Man was a disappointing favourite and looked like another to
avoid.
The final inter-track was a marathon and the
away runners performed poorly again as the locals scored a tricast.
After Centaur
Iris failed to lead early, many would have thought that she was
unlikely to win. She ran a most determined race and showed plenty of
determination to get to the front at the 7th bend. She ran out a
decent 6L winner. True
Frankie made the early running, until fading from the 7th. The
fact that she still finished 2nd does not speak too much for the
efforts of the others.
Denwood
Star stole a march on his rivals and made all in the A1. He had
yet another check up at the 3rd bend and held on from Pepsi
Chick, who stayed on to run him to a neck second. Kilgraney
Agassi and Armies
Plan came together at the first bend.
The S2 finale was a shocking excuse for a race. Ciarans
Prince led up until fading from the 5th. Smoking
Jet came charging up at the 5th bend and surprise, surprise, had
yet another dwell up. Droopys
Sibin got a very lucky run and led on the run in. Be
Wise Lady was outpaced and crowded at the first bend, Be
Wise Lady loomed up as they bunched up in font, but ran below
par.
