Droopy
Obefemi will be hard to contain if keeping on the straight and
narrow
Walthamstow Report
02 June 2007
Saturday's card featured a the first round (8
heats) of the Graphite (UK) puppy comp and some graded racing to
fill the card.
Treacle
Rose smashed out of the traps in the opening A2, taking a wide
course on the run up. She was caught by Not
So Jolly, who stayed on to grab the lead near the line.
Questhouse
Jimmy broke best in the hurdles H1, but made a mistake at the
first and Wol
took up the running. Wol
was in a determined mood and pulled out more on the run in. Questhouse
Jimmy was not striding out properly and finished down the field.
Four
Minutes broke poorly, but kept on for second spot.
Droopys
Majella broke poorly but got to the front fairly early and held
on in the S1. Coolanga
Flyer broke fairly well, but was crowded at the 2nd bend before
keeping on for second. Lode
Star was also crowded early, but ran poorly afterwards.
Blonde
Rock started well in the 1st heat of the puppy comp and led the
field for some way. Droopys
Robster broke modestly, ran to the rails and kept on until
taking over between the last two bends. Opening
Artist stayed on and grabbed second qualifying spot. Nice to see
an even number of heats. None of that three heat semi final, first
two b*llocks.
Lockdale
Duke led up in the second heat after a decent break, but was run
down by one of the lesser fancied Ted Soppitt runners in Go
Marco Polo. Go
Marco Polo was 0 and 4 running into this race and was hard to fancy
going into the race. Larkhill
Jackie stayed on and ran wide at the last bend, but could never
land a blow.
Heat 3 of the puppy comp saw an
impressive winner in Droopys
Obafemi. Droopys
Obafemi landed a double for Ted Soppitt. Droopys
Obafemi broke modestly and paced up to the bend well.
Unfortunately it looked like Droopys
Obafemi had a look at the first bend before straightening up and
running out an impressive winner. Let's hope this was a one-off. Calzaghe
Joe stayed on for second and Heavy
Weather plodded on for third.
Milldean
Buster led up in the 4th heat, but faded on the run in and did
not look sound at the finish. Droopys
Mate took up the invitation and took it up on the run in. True
To Rachel has been running on the Bags recently and ran very
well for third.
The marathon was won in trap to
line fashion by True
Frankie at a very generous 5/1. I
Mean That was crowded at the 4th turn , but still stayed on for
second. The favvy Ebony
Ocean was badly outpaced early doors and ran a shocker.
In
the
5th heat, Swift
Craving led up until moving off at the 4th bend and allowing Like
Hot Cakes, Droopys
Gavin and Quivers
Poppy to go past. Like
Hot Cakes got a clear run at the first two turns and kept on to
lead at the 4th bend. Droopys
Gavin was slow away and ran on to run her down to a head. Quivers
Poppy was a further 32 1/4 lengths back in third spot. Like
Hot Cakes had been recently competing in A6 company and she has obviously
improved.
The outsider Shrewd
Move showed the best early pace in heat six, but was quickly
outclassed. Roxholme
King took over at half way and held off the staying on Droopys
Boss in a decent 28.87. Paid
In Cash eased at the bends and came in a long 3rd.
Lockwood
Littljo turned left out of the traps from trap four and
interfered with a number of dogs in heat 7. July
Captain made the most of a good draw on the rails in heat 7. He
led between the first two turns and won in the slowest time of the
comp. He'll need to improve again to get competitive, but landing a
heat at a juicy 7/1 was an excellent result for his owner Bill
Waldron. Night
Night stayed on for second. Headford
County stayed on for third having gone off a very short looking
8/11.
Kinda
Sure made all in heat 8 and held on from Bigwood
Sheriff, who was a little unlucky after suffering a bump at the
first bend. Dark
Fantasy moved off at the first bend and kept on for 3rd.
