Thursday featured an average Open card, with a few iffy graded
races thrown in..
The opener was a Div 2 435 race and Journey
North defied a long absence to win the race comfortably. He's a
right nice dog and will be winning plenty more.
The
hurdles race was won from start to finish by Snazzy
Time, who was not as impressive as last time at the Stow. None
of his rivals seemed too keen to get involved. Cunning
Bertie stayed on out of the pack for second.
Pennys
Lindsay made all in the S3 and was a bit wide at the bends, but
still had plenty in hand of the slugs in behind.
Lockdale
Lady went off a short favvy in the Div 3 OR, but never got away
from the file early doors and did not look too fluent at a few
bends. Paulees
Prince produced a decent start and made all the running. Classy
Star was done at the 2nd bend after a tardy start, but came home
fairly well.
The Div 1 435 race was a bookies
bonanza. Ardmayle
Ace hung off at the 1st two bends and never got involved in the
race. Tanner
Butler broke modestly and was badly crowded at the 3rd bend off
the pace. Ballinveala
Ice cut out the early running before Jangos
Hero took over between the last two bends.
Centaur
Driver stumbled slightly at the start, but still managed to turn
in front in the novice marathon. He made all the running for a
comfortable success.
Miss
Modesty was fancied by many beforehand and made no mistake in
the Div 2 maiden. Keallons
Pride and Corcra
Agus Or both eased at the bend and allowed Miss
Modesty to skip clear. January
Student stumbled slightly at the start, showed some EP, but
faded as he usually does off the final bend.
Nightshade
made all in the next 4 bend open. Armies
Plan was wide + crowded on the run up, beofre staying on fairly
well. Who
Needs Wings was crowded on the run up, clumsy at the 3rd bend
and never got close to challenge.
The
Stow marathon looked a fairly competitive race beforehand. Blackmagic
Maisy and Westminster
Taj fought out the race for the most part. Westminster
Taj cried enough from the last bend and Blackmagic
Maisy slung the towel in with the race at her mercy. Neither
negotiated the bends too fluently. (as normal) Knockaun
Megan took up the invitation and grabbed the race near the line.
Zattah
Pips has shown better form elsewhere, but soes not seem to take
too well to the Stow.
True
Fowler took a middle course and made all in the Div 1 maiden Lughill
Sammy broke slowly, but showed some back straight pace and
grabbed 2nd.
Erinaceous
Star made the running in the Div 1 standard, but folded up after
holding a handy looking lead. Optimistic
Berty took it up close home in a scramble for the line.
Clonbrin
Show was another short priced winner on the night. He took the
veterans after leading at half way from the surprising early pace
setter Nil
Finance, who faded out of contention. Emporio
Jet stayed on for second.
The 6th
favourite of the night came home in the last race. Be
Wise Lady made the early running in the S2, before fading from
the 5th. Reddmac
One was the only one at the races and took up the running at the
5th bend to win comfortably.
