A
Mortal Lock –
Walthamstow
Report 22 Feb 2007
A decent card for the punters with
the two Arc semi finals and some ok graded racing. I missed the live
running of the first, but managed to catch a re-run. The favvy Droopys
Jimmy ran like a drunk. Many
Memories broke smartly and led until fading on the run in. Flying
Fancy stayed on after a modest start to lead on the run in.
Kinda
Sure broke well in the P6 and looked to have the race won, but a
bunch finish resulted, where Droopys
Fabregas won a multiple contender photo.
I ran out of space for my race
comments for Brigadoon
in the P5. Av aw off
rls, led 2 –1/2W, dwelt…… suffice to say this is not one of my
favourite Greyhounds. Sangria
led up on the run in to win a modest event.
The unexposed April
Fizz took the S4 comfortably. The rest do not merit any sort of
mention. These shocking events have no place on the card in my
opinion.
Buckland
Wally smashed out and made all in the A4.
He was down in grade here and previously did a 23.89 at
Romford. Rockchase
James ran a shocker and is not one to rely on. I called it
horribly wrong on this one’s last run.
Funcheon
Rebel disappointed in the A3. He did not break as well as he can
and eased or bottled it and got smashed up at the second bend. Implicitly
needed no second invitation and won the race fairly comfortably. Sparta
Master ran surprisingly well in second.
Denwood
Star and Clonbrin
Owl showed the early foot in the second A3, but they folded
after their layoffs. Denwood
Star ran much the better of the two. Wheres
Natalie fell out and was down the khazi early on, but she finished
best of all as the leaders folded and led near the line.
The first semi of the Arc produced
a shock for many, The Racing Post’s Peter Meldrum again delivered
the goods to punters as he put up Vipar
Totti at 12-1 early doors. Vipar
Totti broke well and never saw another rival, retuning at an SP of
8-1. Raging
Jack was very slow away, but stayed on. Exclusive
Lee moved off at the first and stayed on ok. The favvy Jazz
Hurricane was slow away, crowded at the second, but was ultimately disappointing
as she failed to pick up Exclusive
Lee, despite turning close enough to him at the 3rd
bend.
Rhincrew
Jo cut out the early running in the S3 before, Silbury
Squirrel took over at the 5th bend. Silbury
Squirrel was backed at 13/8 early doors (in the bar) before retuning
at 4/5F.
Compliance
Lad cracked out and made all to win a modest A2 race. Tipsy
Tarquin was slow away and made some late ground up. Luas
Lasrach
was slow away, showed some pace to the first and kept on for
second.
There was a horrible pile up in the
second semi final of the Arc. All bar Zigzag
Dutchy were at the bend in virtual unison and something had to
give. Astute
Gift was the worst sufferer and I’m very sad to report that we
are waiting to hear how he is. He did not break a hock, but could
not put suspend his own weight properly behind. Zigzag
Dutchy fluked round and made all off the 2nd bend. Too
Risky maybe was not fluent at the first, was badly bumped, but
kept on for second. Legal
Major didn’t suffer the bump too badly and took the 3rd
qualifying spot for his lucky owners. (The Wrights)
I was at the bar for the 12th
race and only got a few notes. January
Sailor was a bit outclassed anyway, was unable to lead this field
and faded at the 4th. War
Of Attrition disappointed again. He was slow away, crwd 2 and plodded on.
Mighty
Fella
eased at the 3rd, but still managed to finish a length
second to Swing
Low.
Lockdale
Lady produced the one of the best performances of the night, when
she murdered her rivals in the A1. She went BANG and it was
goodnight to her rivals very early on. Mystical
Haka went off a short priced favourite and did not look too sound
in behind. Get
On Blackie plugged on for a remote second.
The last event was won by Eternal
Flame, who had a major wait
in front and held off the reluctant Swift
Leon by a length.
