4.10 Yarmouth – The Halls group Victory Vase Handicap Class 2 14F (3yo+ 0-100) GF

1 – Futun – The highly frustrating Futun should appreciate this step up in trip to the longer distances having shaped like he needs a stiffer test. Often one pace his highlight this season has been a good solid looking 2nd in the old Newton Cup where the stiff galloping track of Haydock played to his strengths as he was staying on well of a fairly all round gallop. Sent of as one of the more favoured runners at York next time, he never threatened under a 4lbs penalty for the close 2nd. Not one to have total faith in as he is often held up in rear and has a lot of ground to make up and the longer trip may give him time to get into the race. Cumani is having a good Yarmouth Meeting having won the listed race yesterday and has got claims in landing this today with Eddie returning to the plate.

Tissue Price – 9/1

2 – Mull Of Dubai – Has found more progression this season for tough conditions when winning back-to-back races. The close up 2nd to Group Captain at Ascot has seemly taken its toll with this gelding who now looks to have fallen into the grips of the handicapper at this level as he was never closer then 4th last time at York having stayed on into a place, the ascot run behind Group Captain most probably is the best race he has contested this season and the extra trip today isn’t certain to suit as he got caught when tiring up approaching the finish line. The run at York mirrored that the handicapper had caught him now, as the winner of that race may be pattern class, was a comfortable winner of that handicap and there has been a few knocks further down the finishing order of that race. The better ground today shouldn’t be a problem and is likely to run his usual consistent race under John Egan.

Tissue Price – 8/1

3 – Metaphoric – Has enjoyed a rather light campaign having started the season of back in May when beating St Ledger also run Regal Flush at Newmarket over 10F. Little uncertain if the form of that run is anything to get carried away with as other further that rival he beat would more then likely come out on top having shaped like a future cup horse. Last at Chester behind Solider of fortune, the run at the royal meeting didn’t tell us much as he stayed on at the one pace and never threatened in-group class races in general this season. The return to Handicap Company has seen him in a much better light over today’s trip and he may return to form. Being by Montjeu 12F and 14F races are set to be his ideal trips, but the main concern may be the conditions under foot as Yarmouth can become quite dry quickly and even though he out paced regal flush on Good to firm ground in the finish he was taking on a horse running potentially a mile short of its best. The run last time at York has had a miner franking with the 2nd running such a creditable race in the ST Ledger.

Tissue Price – 8/1

4 – Rajeh – 2nd run this season today on the flat, but should have no fear of the bounce factor having ran over hurdles this summer and comes here fit as a fiddle for the run. Just beat home Mull of Dubai at York, his best form has been over the 12F trip and it isn’t certain despite his hurdle form that this extra 2 furlongs will suit him as well as Mull of Dubai for whom is also trying this trip for the first time. Had been a while since he had run on the flat and he could well come on for that run. Suited to quick ground and a strong pace he may have benefited from the big field last time at York in which he stuck on well for pressure. An interesting runner and John Spearing is a trainer to note at this track.

Tissue Price - NR

5 – Camps Bay – A improver in the field in the shape of Amanda Perrert 3yo and one that should fair a lot better then what he produced at York last time behind Speed Gifted over this trip in which he finished 9th of 19. Behind Metaphoric this day he was outstayed when produced to have every chance in this handicap and may have stamina limitations, the overall gallop in this handicap today isn’t likely to be as strong, he does find himself 4lbs better of at the weights today with Metaphoric for that defeat which should help him have some claims but if you don’t stay u can’t win and on that running he needs to be dropped back. The 6lbs penalty he gained for finishing 2nd to Regal flush looks potentially harsh, but he could improve again and makes appeal at this level when dropped back in trip.

Tissue Price 9/1

6 – Dundry – Looks to have been given a tough ask in this handicap today having struggled since returning to turf from a dual win on the all weather, this looks by far the toughest of his assignments set so far this season and its hard to see how he can overcome these having gained no help from the handicapper. Better likely expected when returning to the national hunt game for his dual-purpose trainer even though he is one that will stay this trip today.

Tissue price – 33/1

7 – Generous Jem – Ran the other day and be a surprise if she was to be turned out quickly having been heavily campaigned recently. Non-runner

8 – Aajel – The most unexposed runner in the field. He's trained by Marcus Tregoning, who has a patient approach, so there is no concerns over the 43 day break from his last race. The trainer can get them fit for their runs. Richard Hills has yet to taste success on this horse in the two rides he has had, but both times he has produced the horse to within 1.25L of the winner. He looks a type with improvement to come in handicaps. Upped another 3lbs today, following a 3rd to Ajaan, for whom he meets on 7lbs better terms for 1.25L. On lbs to lengths, he should reverse the form at the weights today. Quite a big colt with plenty of scope for improvement, the ground should be ideal. The extra trip can only improve him further on breeding. The form of the Pontefract race has been well franked by the winner and 2nd winning again, and further down Missoula has come out and franked the form as well, so is solid looking form.

Tissue Price – 4/1

9 – Ajaan – Has to find improvement again to bring up the hatrick with Aajel likely to come on again and the 7lbs he has to defy isn’t likely to be easy going for this progressive son of Machilallvein. Penalised 4lbs for a narrow soft ground victory at head quarters last time he was firmly expected to win that handicap having only 3 exposed rivals to beat, the blinkers have brought about a more willingness to race he has proven stamina for this trip that may stand him in good stead against Aajel. Henry Cecil is inform at present and another big run is likely here.

Tissue Price – 5/1

10 – Inchpast – Last seen in the history making Cesarewitch handicap back in 2005 when the winner went on to create history that year in staying handicaps. Mark Tompkins does very well at this course and this returning course winner has been dropped to below a winning handicap mark, the long absence from the track is the main concern as in the past has always improved for racing and hard to see him figuring in the finish on first return to the track in over 700 days.

Tissue Price 50/1

11 – Irish Quest – Another progressive youngster in the field who should take all the beating from the foot of the weights as he comes here very much on the upward curve. The win over 2M at Goodwood was meet with a drop back in trip to 14F in which he ran out a comfortable winner from Spanish Diva under a 3lbs penalty. Raised another 6lbs in the handicap for the latest win the booking of William Buick from the right end of the handicap is made to counter the rise in weight and if the young lad can do 7.9lbs he has to be very well handicapped to bring up the hatrick under conditions that should well suit with guaranteed stamina. The opponents are much stronger then the class 4 & 5 opponents he has been facing but is on the up and with a low weight may have a more level playing field then firs t expected.

Tissue Price – 7/2

Tissue – Irish Quest 7/2, Aajel 4/1, Ajaan 5/1, Metaphoric, Mull of Dubai 8/1, Futun, Camps Bay 9/1, Dundry 33/1, Inchpast 50/1

Verdict – A decent handicap for this meeting and quite a few promising types. It's highly likely a 3yo will come out on top. Camps Bay, Ajaan and Irish Quest, all have won races this season and progressed to this standard of race. They could well make up the finishing order in this race, However, the other two 3yo have been allotted high marks on their maiden form and have done well in these handicaps, to suggest that the handicapper has got their ability close to the mark. The Marcus Tregonning horse is well weighted from a useful piece of form and should improve for the extra trip. He could make up to be half decent horse, who could end up contesting heritage handicaps before the season is out, having held a Derby entry early doors.

Selection –  Aajel 1pt @ 6/1 (8.0 BF
