3.30 Thirsk Hygicare Handicap
class 3 (3yo+ 0-95) 12F GD-FM
1 - Luna Landing - Made all
over course and distance when given a easy time in front against
Clueless for whom he meets on worse terms in this handicap today.
8lbs higher then that day he is quite exposed over this trip and has
more unexposed progressive rivals to try and run the finish out of
in this handicap today. Quick ground suits him and a return to this
track may well help him come back to form but he has in the main
struggled from the 80+ marks in class 3 and above handicaps and
comes into this race of the back of a few poor efforts.
Tissue Price - 10/1
2 - Clueless - Jamie Moriaty
returns to the saddle having partnered Clueless to that 2nd behind
Luna Landing over course and distance and has strong claims of
reversing the form of that race with a more prominent roll in this
race as he got 2nd run when losing out on this day to the winner.
Similar conditions today he is a fast ground expert and was just
outclassed over further last time to St Leger also run Regal Flush.
Back below last winning mark which was a good class 3 handicap
effort at Yarmouth when a 3yo in a all age handicap, There was a
good mixture of handicappers in that race that day but overall it
was a fair handicap and he may not be as good as he was that day, so
something more progressive could easily come out on top in this
race.
Tissue Price - 6/1
3 - Philanthropy - First of
several potential improvers in this field and the Kevin Ryan 3yo
comes here of the back of a solid win in a 3yo handicap. Won by 2.5L
at York over a fairly decent bunch of handicappers with a runner
from the Dante in the race and well beaten. The 6lbs penalty may not
be a problem to overcome even though we don't know as of yet how
that form is likely to stack up. It may have been a canny ride from
the front last time at York in which he nicked a few lengths out of
the field at the right time and York can have a pace bias if
uncontested. Has had two other runs over this trip in which he was
fell apart at Newmarket for Mark Johnston and then on his last run
he never really picked up in the mud behind older handicappers at
Windsor. Taking on older handicappers here he may improve again for
Kevin Ryan but it could be misleading to read to much in to the York
form.

4 - Players Please - Has
started to become expensive to follow and is one of the more exposed
3yo around it would seem over these middle distance trips after
being tried in high profile races. Finished sixth in a bunch finish
at Sandown. The 8yo Impeller returned to winning ways from a rival
who is often the bridesmaid and Pagan Sword has done it no favours
by finishing last on his next start so there is holes to pick in the
form. Mark Johnston horse was backed of the boards that day so was
expected to win that prize and if you look at the form at Goodwood
he would have to have a clear chance in this race today. The extra
2F may have the desired effect on him as he bids to finally win a
handicap on turf even though his consistence has meant he has had no
easing of his current handicap mark and this easier task today in
terms of quality could well see him finally win a race.

5 - Generous Jem - The most
progressive horse in the field has to be this filly by Generous who
has risen in the weights rapidly by 22lbs in racking up a quick fire
hat-rick of handicap wins, there could be reason to believe that
they have gone to the well one to many times with this horse in the
last month but she has shown no signs of tiredness and finished well
to win with relative ease last time. Hard to know what to make of
that form she has the similar profile to stable star Young Mick who
the trainer did so well to progress over these sorts of trip and it
would be no surprise to see her go in again with Neil Brown
continuing after giving her a peach of the ride to balance the rise
in the weights out. Last time. Small fields and fast ground suit her
well and she will never win by far and with a potential good overall
gallop to this handicap it could be a case of easing once again in
to contention and picking them off under a 7lbs rise in the weights.
This should be her stiffest test to date.
Tissue price 5/1
6 - Mighty Moon - Finished a
close 2nd on last start to the progressive Generous Jem but may have
been more flattered by the proximity of that 2nd to the winner.
Raised an unfair 7lbs for that 2nd in my view he doesn't meet the
filly on much better terms here as they both adopt 5lbs claimer to
overcome the weight rise and this drop back in trip may not suit him
either with further bringing out improvement. This is a half decent
handicap and the 14lbs high mark overall may have this 4yo
struggling as he is in the main exposed over these sorts of trip and
it was a poor race at York bar the winner as already pointed out may
have been flattered by the result.
Tissue Price - 14/1
7 - Heathyards Pride - Winner
back in August at Brighton over today's trip and hasn't shown much
in two races since being raised 6lbs in the weights and may be back
in the grip of the handicapper having plied his trade in the low
levels for most of his 38 runs so far. Best on the all weather track
at Wolverhampton where he has won six times and is well suited to
this trip today with seven wins over 12F. Has won over a variety of
tracks so there shouldn't be any problems on this course that is
quite conventional and fast conditions with a strong pace does give
him some claims in this but overall it's a much tougher race then
the Brighton handicap he was so impressive in.
Tissue Price - 12/1
8 - Habalwatan - Ran a
cracker at Ripon last time behind Teslin in which he had Cabinet in
behind and even though quite exposed for a 3yo he has gone well
twice at Beverley to remain of interest if given a easier race at
that track before the season is out as he starts to drop back to a
handicap mark he can strike off on turf after paying at the weights
for a profitable campaign on the All weather. Same mark as those two
Beverley runs over 10f he has a far more realistic chance over this
distance then the previous try at this trip in Italian Derby. This
easier track and extra 2 furlongs may have him going close and Jamie
Spencer on come from behind tactics is a obvious booking for the
yard in this handicap today.
Tissue Price - 7/2
Tissue - Habalwatan, Players Please 7/2, Generous Jem 5/1,
Clueless 6/1,Philanthropy 7/1, Luna Landing 10/1, Heathyards Pride
12/1, Mighty Moon 14/1.
Verdict – Better
handicap then the one that Clueless & Luna Landing fought out
the finish in which Clueless should come out on top this time around
on better terms, while the progressive Generous Jem may progress to
go in again but she does need to find more improvement even though
her style of running is hard to asses as she has to be produced at
the right time in the race. The three 3yo in this field all have
different claims in this race with Kevin Ryan York scorer is the one
with the proven stamina amongst them. However both Habalwatan and
Players Please have shaped that 12F could well bring them along
further and elevate them to another level.
Selection –
Habalwatan 2pts
win @ 6-1 (7.5 Betfair)
