2.35 Goodwood Dennis EDE 70th Birthday Celebration Stakes Handicap class 2 (3yo+ 0-100) 6F GD-FM

1 - The Tatling - The old boy isn't the force of old and handicaps at this level is where his future lies with group races above him these days, has ran well over 5F this season and been knocking on the door over that trip but it would be wrong to say he isn't as effective over 6F these days as the two 6F races he has contested this season has been a good effort in the St Great Wilfred handicap at Ripon which may have been a weaker heritage handicap and the Stewards cup over course and distance in which he was well beaten in. Suited to quick ground and has solid enough course form so he has everything in favour and makes the short list for this handicap despite having to give weight away in this handicap.

Tissue Price - 10/1

2 - Baron's Pit - Last seen trying to beat the bunbury cup winner Giganticus over seven furlongs and will appreciate the return to this trip today. Weighted to reverse form over this 6F with the Tatling based on the Stewards cup form this is a small field today, which should be much more to his liking and gives him even more solid claims as continues to fall in the handicap. Loves it on top of the ground and has solid enough form over six, his best runs has potentially came over the minimum trip of five furlongs where he very rarely runs a poor race. Headgear is back on today and he has claims from this mark if not getting drawn into a speed battle up front.

Tissue Price - 6/1

3 - Mac Gille Eoin - Highly tried 3yo sprinter having been kept consistently on the go this summer and comes into this handicap today of a 18lbs higher mark then when winning over course and distance of a mark of 72. There is reason to believe that the 3yo his been up against have been potentially better quality then the older handicappers he has been up against and the 1.5L defeat to Golden Dixie at this course two runs back looks good solid handicapping form against the older brigade and once again showed a liking for this course and distance. Loves ideal racing ground but has raced well on quick ground but wont mind a bit of watering on the ground, most solid over 6F he has everything in favour including Jim Crowley in the plate who has strike a good understanding with the horse and its just a matter of is he good enough.

Tissue Price - 9/1

4 - Padrao Lima - One of the more unexposed handicappers in this field today and it's hard to know quite what to make of the form from Italy where he was a group 3 winner. Showed little over 7F on UK debut his top form was over a mile in Italy and a little unsure what this drop to sprint distances will bring from him and may be best watched to gain more info on the horse. Jockey has ridden well for Stan Moore in the past but has yet to ride a winner at Goodwood.

Tissue Price - 40/1

5 - Diane's Choice - Deserved winner at Kempton latest on the All weather in which he denied the sponsors a victory in the main handicap on the card. Has 2L to make up on Dingaan over course and distance in which she bided to make all before fading at the death and little unsure if the 1lb swing in the weight is enough to reverse the form today. Only 3lbs higher then when winning on the all weather, she is now 11lbs higher then when winning on turf. The runs over 5F would have been to sharp and this six should suit better and she is improving so there is claims for her to run a place and possibly win this handicap.

Tissue Price - 11/2

6 - H Harrison - Ran yesterday over his more favoured seven furlongs and shaped as if he was In the grip if the handicapper having been raised for winning at Chester a track that very much suits him. A prolific scorer having landed 14 races and Andrew Elliot gets on well with the handicapper. Has form over shorter but at a lower level its hard to see him beating natural speedster in this handicap today.

Tissue Price - 16/1

7 - Ajigolo - Has a big swing in the weights with Mac Gille Eoin on form behind the consistent Golden Dixie over course and distance and could have been regarded as disappointing this day to finish so far behind. Better then he showed in that race he certainly holds The Tatling on St Wilfred handicap at Ripon over six furlongs. Goes well this time of year and quick ground is a bonus as his best form has come on quick ground with two wins on this surface. The Yard are in great shape at present but this horse is hit and miss and its hard to know which Ajigolo is going to turn up and with four poor efforts at this track (albeit decent races) a more conventional galloping track may suit him best.

Tissue Price - 14/1

8 - Esteem Machine - Bolted up last time on Soft ground at Newmarket and does seem best on ground with cut in as many mark of esteem prodigies have proven in the past. A galloping 6F suits he is one of interest with little racing under his belt and may be to soon to totally discount him on top of the ground having only previously encountered one run on fast ground in which he was a close up 2nd over 7F. This may be a little sharper then ideal today on quick ground over 6F even though that 7F run he was always up in the firing line and went for home early enough. Kerrin gets on well with the horse and the maiden run behind Pipedreamer at this track is working out as solid form at this course with the winner winning a big race handicap at the festival here. 8lbs rise doesn't make it any easier for him, but he remains of interest despite the race he won taking some form knocks, as he was clearly the best in that race.

Tissue Price - 7/2

9 - Mujood - Another to have contested a course and distance handicap behind Golden Dixie in which he finished in between Aijgolo and Mac Gillie Eoin. Better weighted with the 3yo even though has a lot of ground to make up and looks like he is in the hands of the handicapper at present. Despite being dropped a further 2lbs in the handicap to below a winning mark that was obtained at this track back in May. Suited to the track he needs to build on recent form to take a hand in this handicap but quick ground here over six furlongs points to a big run if finding his best form for first season trainer who has made her names in sprints this season. Drawn in stall 1shouldnt be a problem as he is likely to sit handily of the pace to be produced at the right time and has much in favour.

Tissue Price - 8/1

10 - Dingaan - Course and distance winner when winning in good fashion coming from last to first in the final 3rd of the race to just deny Bentong in the last strides. Suited to a strong pace there is potential that this race could fall into his lap and interesting after a 5lbs drop in the handicap from his all weather mark has him well handicapped against Diane's Choice on turf form and with 2lbs out of the handicap he is still below this winning mark. Didn't run to badly over 7F behind King of Argos here, which his stamina didn't last home and should be much better suited to this race today. Bigger fields are ideal for him but this 10-runner affair has a bit of pace about it and may just get away with it.

Tissue Price - 4/1

Tissue Prices - Esteem Machine 7/2, Dingaan 4/1, Diane's Choice 11/2 , Baron's Pit 6/1, Mujood 8/1, Mac Gillie Eoin 9/1, The Tatling 10/1, Ajigolo 14/1, H Harrison 16/1, Padrao Lima 40/1

Verdict – An open handicap where several have claims over this 6F. The exposed top handicappers are led by Baron's Pit, who makes more appeal then The Tatling, who has to shoulder top weight in this handicap, but may have the race to suit. At the foot of the weights Dingaan at 10-1 is a big price from out of the handicap, while Mujood isn't without a chance if finding his best form. Esteem Machine would be a warm order in this handicap, if it was known that this sharper test would suit.  I would have made him a very short fav, his ability may have him ahead of the handicapper enough to overcome it here, if it wasn't his most ideal ground. Therefore, we return to Dingaan as the choice for this race.

Selection  Dingaan 1pt win @ 10-1 (BF 12.0)
