3.10 Totesport.com Handicap
Class 2 (3yo+ 0-100) 10F Gd-Firm
1 - Strategic Mount - Paul
Cole stable star found the company to tough in the Ebor last time
when well beaten by Purple Moon at York over 14F and will need to be
at his best here to defy top weight in this handicap over a trip
that could be a little on the short side having excelled over 12F in
the past, the quick ground will suit his style and there could be
more to come from him in terms of improvement and the course should
suit.
My Tissue Price - 6/1
2 - Kew Green - Winner back
in April when getting up in the shadow of the post at Warwick and
once was an early season favourite for the Cambridgeshire when a
7yo. Listed class races he seems out of depth and maybe not as good
as he once was and this level is where his future lies but even with
the 6lbs dropped in the handicap his still 1lb higher then when last
winning a handicap at this level. 10 furlongs is as far as he want
and this track should just about see his stamina last but may need
to give way to a more progressive rival.
My Tissue Price - 16/1
3 - Impeller - Last seen over
10F at York and never really figuring as he meet trouble when trying
to get into contention but he finally has his conditions underfoot
to give his best efforts in. Now 8yo and back to within 1lb of his
handicap mark that had him winning over 10F back in February in
Dubai, exposed and potentially vulnerable to a improver he hasn't
got anywhere near his best in recent weeks and looks like he will
struggle to get back in the winning enclosure in a handicap at this
level.
My Tissue Price - 14/1
4 - Luberon - Very poor
effort at York where he was tailed off behind the likes of Yarqus
and Impeller and needs to dictate the gallop in which on this
occasion he could never get to the front. Looks handicapped up to
his best as he has become exposed and it would be surprising to see
him able to have the run of the race today. Dropped 6lbs for that
run which makes him well handicapped based on his 12F form as a 3yo
in which he was given the run of the race. Never really been suited
to 10F he should be tackled early enough by naturally quicker
rivals.
My Tissue Price - 10/1
5 - Bandama - needs quick
ground and proved that point when tailing off at Ascot in a race
that should have seen him give a much better effort based on the run
at Kempton the time before. Never really figuring at Goodwood in a
better handicap then the one today over 10F and was very poor last
time when last behind Strategic Mount at Ascot over 12F and needs to
return to form before he can be considered for handicaps such as
this despite being dropped yet another 3lbsin the handicap.
My Tissue Price - 20/1
6 - Seal Point - an
interesting inclusion to this handicap but needs to improve
drastically on seasonal reappearance behind Lovelace last week at
Newbury where he finished last over 7F. Given a massive step up in
trip this Colt by Point Given a first season sire has mainly done
well with sprinters so far and looks best watched today over this
trip.
My Tissue Price - 66/1
7 - Wind Star - Didn't run to
badly last time out at York over 12F behind the unexposed Galactic
star in which his stamina may have not lasted out and will
appreciate this drop to 10F in which he often runs well over based
on the Zetland Gold cup form where he is just 1lb of that weight
today. Steve Drowne is booked for the ride today and rode him well
to finish 3rd on the July course to Sahrati and should give another
good account today with the ground very much in his favour today.
My Tissue price - 4/1
8 - Yarqus - A consistent
performer without winning and has been knocking on the door so far
this season and stayed on well enough at York last time to suggest
that he will see this stiffer 10F out well enough to have a say in
the finish. No Seb Sanders today but Kerrin Mcevoy has a good record
when riding for Clive Britton and the ground should be fine for him
today as he looks to confirm the form of the royal sun alliance
stakes form from York.
My Tissue Price - 9/2
9 - Dan Dare - Stable should
have a god idea on how there runner fairs with stable mates wining
both handicaps at York in which so many of today runners contested
and this unexposed gelding may be well handicapped for the champion
trainer. The return to good to firm ground should help him after two
efforts under very soft conditions in which he ran with credit
without ever threatening to win either handicap. The Zetland Gold
cup form has him closely matched with wind star at the weights and
shouldn't be to far off with improvement likely.
My Tissue Price - 9/2
10 - Pagan Sword - 2nd runner
in this race for Amanda Perrert and the partnering of Jimmy Fortune
is interesting taking over from a claimer who has had him knocking
on the door in the last 3 starts. Close up 5th last time at Kempton
over a furlong further then today's trip and is best judged on his
2nd to Ideally at Leicester on firm ground in which he ran with
credit against a modest bunch. Has got to improve on what he has
achieved in those 3 runs and the jockey booking may suggest that a
experienced jockey may have him back to nearing his best form.
My Tissue Price - 8/1
11 - Players Please - Another
from the royal sun alliance handicap at York in which he was quite
fancied for and could only muster the one pace in the finish. Going
back to his early season form where he was 4th over 10F on the
Rowley Mile in which he ran with credit under today conditions he
may be able to improve on that running and has claims to reverse the
form with Yarqus who finished in front of him at York. Two runners
in this handicap for Mark Johnston in which team tactics could come
into play with a front-runner amongst the pair and Richard Hills a
interesting booking.
My Tissue Price - 6/1
Tissue prices - Wind star 4/1, Yarqus, Dan Dare 9/2,
Players Please, Strategic Mount 6/1, Pagan Sword 8/1, Luberon 10/1,
Impeller 14/1, Kew green 16/1, Bandama 20/1, Seal Point 66/1.
Verdict – A
decent handicap and one that could be dominated up front by the Mark
Johnston pair in which the 3yo Players please could run away with
this under Richard Hills and is a leading fancy from the York form
along with Yarqus. Wind Star is likely to go close back over 10F and
looks like he has been found a chance to land a handicap given the
rivals today, while Dan Dare is respected with the yard knowing what
it should take to win this handicap today.
Selection –
Wind Star 3pts win @ 17-2 (BF 10.5)
Well Chief
