Handicap class 3 (3yo+ 0-95) 5F good to firm
Draw The draw yesterday in the 3yo sprint favoured the high
numbers by quite some significant margin in the 3yo handicap sprint
and it may be wise to stick along those lines and the stand side
rail. The pace is drawn right across the track for this race with
Loch Verdi and Harry up from the low numbers, while Lethal,
Bertoliver, Turn on the Style, Distinctly Game and Woodcote are all
likely to push the pace along for the high numbers. The likely hood
is that once again the high numbers will prevail with a much bigger
overall look to the pace.
1 Woodcote Has a ideal
draw but showed very little back at the track in which he recorded
his best figures in the Stewards cup and may have benefited by quite
a lot steering a lonely path at ascot over 5F in which he made all.
Likely to be tackled up front over this minimum trip with 10 stone
on his back and has some form reversing based on Goodwood run in
which better was expected last time. The ground looks ideal today
and he has gone well at the track before when 2nd to Tax free in the
3yo sprint at this meeting, but is likely to need to return to 6F
when he will be at his best.

2 Moorhouse Lad Ran a
cracker at Epsom in a race that he was entitled to run well in and
has claims back in to handicap company after running a respectable
race in the King Stand at Royal Ascot a couple of weeks back. Well
suited to 5F and at the top of his game at present. The ground is
ideal for another bold show and is a course and distance winner from
when beating King Orchisios he has all the hallmarks for a big run
here with Frankie booked for a rare runner at this track for Brian
Smart.

3 Judd Street Beaten by
King Orchisios last time over 5F at Wolverhampton in which the
winner made all and was well clear before the likes of Judd Street
stayed on to close up the gap. Back on turf she has form tied in
with Wokingham 2nd Intrepid Jack over this minimum trip when chasing
him home at bath under similar conditions that are likely today.
Produced to win her race that day she could never muster enough
speed to see of her rival that day who came with a sweeping run, but
it did point to her being back in form. Off the same mark here today
she needs to prove her fitness but has gone well in the past and has
got some course form to her name when 3rd to Bond City in which she
had the run of the race.

4 Turn on the Style Never
a factor last time on heavy ground at Newcastle which was far from
ideal and today surface in theory should suit him a lot more even
though his official rating is more based on his all weather exploits
instead of his form on turf. A 4th to Intrepid Jack over 6F in which
he made plenty of ground up late on without threatening the winner
he has progressed since that day and clearly is going the right way.
The trip today based on all weather achievements is ideal and with a
galloping straight track in the past not proving too much of a
problem he should cope with it here.

5 Magic Glade Burst
through to beat Moorhouse Lad at Thirsk a few runs back and finds
himself better weighted, Tracking the leaders he was short of room
before getting the split at the right time and quickened well to
take the race in the final stride denying Moorhouse lane and the
Gosforth park sprint winner Green Park. Harry up cut out the pace in
which suited anything coming from off the pace and with a strong
pace certain again in this race he may just have enough to confirm
the form in this race. Drawn low isnt ideal with more pace to the
high numbers but isnt without a chance dropped 4lbs since staying
on well at Goodwood which may have been too sharp.
Tissue Price 14-1
6 Lethal Two flops since
being dropped back to 5f at Goodwood and that has come as a bit of a
surprise considering prior to the Goodwood run where he stayed on at
the one pace he was very much a 7F specialist based on all weather
efforts. Seems to have gone of the boil of late based on the run at
Epsom and can be excused the run last time on soft ground. Still
more improvement to come over the minimum trip and could improve to
go close from a decent draw.
Tissue price 20-1
7 Distinctly Game Hard to
know how well this horse handles turf as its been quite some time
since he was last seen on it, but based on all weather form he won
over 6F before finishing well behind turn on the style at Lingfield
over 5F proving that maybe 6F is more suited. Held up usually he has
got some decent efforts on turf having finished 2nd to the useful
Cesar Beware in the Doncaster 2yo yearling stakes in which strike
the front looking like the winner just to be outstayed by a very
talented 2yo. Like many from that race they are then given a
difficult time of it afterwards, but he is interesting here having
dropped down the handicap and back on turf over 5F on a straight
stiff track.
Tissue Price 16-1
8 Harry Up Not certain to
confirm form with the progressive Dig Deep based on Wolverhampton
running and is likely to get tackled in front today (easy time up
front this day) in which he is likely to help force the issue from
the low half of the draw. Handicapped to the same level as this day
he was searching for the line this day and ran out a slightly lucky
winner. Has cut out a strong pace in which he has been given the
hurry up in his last two runs and both times weakened when headed
and this stiffer finish may not help. Best run was last time in a
competitive affair at Musselbrugh and another dropped 2lbs helps,
but given the finishing position of Magic Glade he is likely to
struggle to confirm form with that runner as a sitting duck again on
worse terms.

9 Loch Verdi Ran a
cracker on seasonal reappearance at Goodwood a track that clearly
suits and was trapped wide at Epsom in the Dash to get a blow in and
can discount that run as she is a lot better then that on what she
achieved as a 3yo. Quick ground and 5F suit as well as an uphill
finish despite her best coming on downhill tracks. She is drawn on
the low side of the draw, which isnt ideal, but she should make her
own running with Harry Up. Her biggest concern is getting into a
dual with Harry up and cracking under the pressure. William Buick
gave her every chance at Goodwood at the weights and she ran a very
solid race even though always looking held by the winner, this is a
class below that race but a much more competitive in numbers and she
needs to prove that Epsom she just didnt have the run of the race.

10 Handsome Cross- Starting
to come round to the fact that he flopped at Epsom when finishing
11th because looking back he did in fact have a much better chance
then suggested at the time. Given some bold tries this season he has
failed to get home off a strong pace the last two times and
potentially needs smaller fields in which he can track the leader
before being produced well in the final 3rd of the race to win. Won
once in a big field when making the running as a handicap good
thing. Today im uncertain the pace of the race will suit, but is
well handicapped based on Epsom run where the front 3 never stopped
in front and finished close up to Moorhouse Lad. Finished 2nd in
similar race to this last season but this looks a much tougher race
and is worse of at the weights today with the winner.
Tissue Price 16-1
11 Curtail Ian Semple
doesnt usually make the long trip south without a chance and his
Curtail was given every chance at the trainers home track of
Hamilton earlier in the season behind Machinist. Been kept on the go
since that day with two fine efforts over 5F including an eye
catching 4th at Ayr two runs back. Kept on gamely after tracking the
winner who made all in a good time for the conditions. Not given
much of a chance next time from a high draw at Chester but still ran
with credit with conditions and the way the race ran very much
against him. Can build on previous course run when given a difficult
assignment of top weight in a 2yo Nursery here and has much bigger
and better claims then that day.
Tissue price 7/1
12 Bertoliver Non-runner
13 Dig Deep Just failed
at Wolverhampton when fast finishing 2nd to Harry Up and had
previously ran well to give weight away to Magic Glade for whom he
has a massive weight swing with today. Yet to show enough form on
turf to warrant this kind of mark having progressed nicely along for
the switch to the all weather tracks. Never going when losing to
Magic Glade at Thrisk on the revised marks and well beaten at
Hamilton. The drying ground should suit having won over 7F on
handicap debut and the strong pace should enable him to arrive on
the scene towards the end of the race, but in an ultra competitive
affair he has something to prove here.
Tissue Price 20-1
14 Forest Dane Looks
handicapped but continues to run well without winning and comes here
of the back of a half decent 2nd at Folkestone. The proximity of the
3rd in that race leads me to say the form isnt the strongest with
Idle Power & Maltese Falcon cutting each others throats as they set
out on a strong gallop over 6F, the winner got the run up the rail
after being switched off and they all finished in a heap. Forest
Dane however did track the pace and stuck on well that day. Best
over 6F they are likely to go fast here and he has in fact won both
his last two starts over 5F in which he was held up and beat
moderate opponents. Beat Matsunosuke at Sandown when very well
handicapped and has to defy a stone pull in the weights with that
rival today on his switch back to the minimum trip.
Tissue Price 16-1
15 Highland Warrior A
little unlucky in running last time when tracking the winner and
getting boxed in at a vital time. Best form in the last year has
been on soft ground in which he encountered this day, his best
performance has come on quick ground and was eye catching good when
quickening from last to first to beat Harry up last year at
Musselbrugh. Not certain to be at the same level as when with Jim
Goldie he is in good form but potentially a little below this class
of opponent even though well weighted with Harry up on that run last
year.
Tissue Price 22-1
16 Matsunosuke Won over
course and distance in this race last year from handsome cross and
looks to retain his prize here from out of the handicap (1lb).
Booked with Ryan Moore which is a bonus booking and comes here not
in the same form as form figure but of the back of a very good run
latest in which he finished 18th in the King Stand but only 4L
finishing in the top 10. Strong pace suits him as he comes with a
run best when given something to aim at and with the strong pace
today should have the race to suit. Potentially able to confirm form
with the runner up, it Is a much better race this time around as he
carried 9stone 2lbs in it last year and this years finds himself out
of the handicap.
Tissue Price 10/1
17 Noddledoddle Beaten in
selling company last time and taking on experienced sprinters after
showing very little. Would be a massive surprise.
Tissue price 100-1
Tissue prices Curtail, Turn on the style 7/1,
Matsunosuke 9/1, Loch Verdi, Moorhouse lad 10/1, Magic Glade 14/1,
Distinctly game, Handsome cross, Judd Street, Forest Dane 16/1, Dig
Deep, Harry Up, Lethal, Woodcote 20/1, Highland Warrior 22/1,
Noddledoodle 100/1
Verdict Sticking
with the high numbers in this sprint handicap that is a open event
and Curtail stands out as a value selection having ran well already
this summer without winning. Currently around 16-1 in some places,
he is well berthed in stall 17 to run a big race up against the
favoured stands rail. Turn on the Style from 13 is well priced at
9-1 with Jimmy Fortune up, while Magic Glade (6) and Distinctly game
(13) are rather big prices at 33-1 & 25-1 retrospectively.
Selection
Curtail 1pt @ 16-1 (16-1BF),
Distinctly Game 1pt @ 25-1
