Champions League
Preview - 09 Nov 2007
MSV Duisburg vs
VFL Bochum. Friday 19:30.
Friday's nights Bundesliga offering brings together two sides
lodged in the bottom six. Duisburg tasted success in their previous
live game, away to Cottbus, while Bochum have an impressive record
in these early-weekend encounters.
Bochum are the side in-form, having edged out Wolfsburg in an
eight-goal thriller last week, thanks to four first-half goals. A
much-needed victory for Marcel Koller's side, who had not tasted
success since a Friday night win over Hamburg back in August.
Duisburg on the other hand, haven't managed to find the net since
that televised success last month, going down to successive 1-0
defeats against high-flyers Hamburg and Karlsruhe.
There really isn't much to get excited out in the main markets
here. Even the bookings potential is tempered by the presence of the
lenient Gunther Perl. One stat that does catch the eye is the
referee's penalty record. Herr Perl has awarded two spot-kicks in
six games this season, which is in line with his 2006/07 record of
six in 16. Those stats make Sporting Index's penalty-performance
quote of 4-5.5 look a bit on the low side. However, the best option
could be to side with the goal minutes of the penalty-takers,
Duisburg's Mihai Tararache and Bochum's Marcel Maltritz (who scored
one against Wolfsburg last week). Both quotes look too low.
Alternatively Bet365's 33/1 Maltritz looks a good each-way bet.
Recommendations: 1/3 pt buy Maltritz' GM's
@ 4 (IG) and 1/4 pt Tararache @ 4 (SPIN).
