Euro Preview - 31 Oct 2007

Mallorca to come unstuck in Coruna.

While the Balaeric Islanders are having a fine season, it's their home form that has propelled them into the top seven. Confidence is high, however that may not be such a positive against a tough Deportivo side scrapping for points. The Galician outfit have had a tough time of it lately, but they've not had the easiest of fixtures. Not too many lower-ranked sides would be disappointed with a three-point haul against Real Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla. There are encouraging sides that Miguel Lotina is slowly moulding a side with a greater attacking threat than seen over the last eighteen months.

Mallorca are soon to endure the same three-game run which Depor have just come out of. There's a feeling that minds may already be on the weekend clash with Valencia, as Gregor Manzano chose not to include influential playmaker Ariel Ibagaza in the visiting party. With leading Daniel Guiza suffering from a knock picked up against Espanyol, and Portsmouth-target Jonas Gutierrez working his way back to full-fitness (though both are likely to start), it's fair to assume that the visitors won't be at the top of their game, for the long trek north. On the defensive front, Manzano has to do without key defender Sergio Ballesteros following his harsh sending-off at the weekend.

While there's no doubt that Mallorca are the better side currently, Deportivo should be supported off a quarter ball handicap, against a side who are yet to prove they are anywhere near as effective on the mainland, as they are at San Moix.

Deportivo La Coruna v Real Mallorca

Recommendation: 3pts Deportivo -0.25 @ 2.17. Canbet.
