Preview - 01 Sep 2007
Bochum can stay in touch.
VFL Bochum's pragmatic coach Marcel Koller is never one to carried
away, but he must be secretly delighted with the start his unfancied
charges have made.
The general assumption was that his side would struggle to cope
without the goals of Theofannis Gekas (last season's top scorer) and
Zvejzdan Misimovic. However, Koller has again unearthed a
couple of gems in the form of Danish striker Tommy Bechmann and the
Slovakian forward Stanislav Sestak. The in-form duo have
accounted for five of Bochum's impressive six goal haul.
An encouraging opening day point against Werder Bremen was followed
by 2-1 victories against Cottbus and Hamburg. Koller must
fancy his chances of remaining in the top three after today's trip
to inconsistent Hannover.
Dieter Hecking's men can be forgiven for going down at
all-conquering Bayern Munich last week, although the sending-off of
pivotal midfielder Altin Lala was an unwelcome hinderance.
With playmaker Szabolcs Huszti seemingly out-of-form/favour,
Hecking's favoured 4-5-1 formation may not prove effective against a
counter-attacking Bochum side who, unlike Hannover, are playing with
a sense of freedom, and always look dangerous in and around the
opposition box.
