Carling Cup Football
Preview - 25 Sep 2007
Bianchi to get back on the goal
trail.
Man City entertain Norwich in the Carling Cup tonight, and
Rolando Bianchi could be the man to fire the blues into round four.
The Canaries are having a tough time in the Championship,
suffering consecutive 2-0 defeats at Wolves and Charlton. Striker
Darren Huckerby has admitted that the current Norwich side is the
weakest he's played in. Confidence is clearly low at Carrow Road,
with manager Tony Grant bemoaning recent turgid performances. His
problems are compounded ahead of the trip to Eastlands by a number
if injuries and suspensions. The most notable absentee is the
ever-green Dion Dublin, who sits out the second game of his ban.
Jason Shackell and Julien Brellier also miss the trip after their
sending-offs against Wolves, while Adam Dury and Luke Chadwick are
not yet fit to return. Dublin's defensive performances have been the
one bright spot in his side's poor start to the season. Without his
leadership qualities, it's hard to imagine high-flying City
struggling to make their quality count against such an inexperienced
Norwich backline.
Quotes of 2/5 about Sven's charges look fair value, even if Sven
does ring the changes from the side that put three past Fulham at
the weekend. However, it could pay to instead take advantage of
Hills' generous anytime goal scorer prices. They are taking a huge
chance quoting 2/1 about a player who was so prolific in Serie A
last season. Bianchi's opportunities this season have been somewhat
limited, partly due to the Swede's favoured 4-5-1 system. This is
the ideal opportunity for the talented Italian to get back amongst
the goals, and prove to his manager that he deserves to be the man
to lead the line against more distinguished opposition.
Manchester City v Norwich. Carling Cup Tuesday 19:45.
Recommendation: 2.5pts
Bianchi to score anytime. 2/1
Hills.
